What it measures
128 questions across 16 fundamental human motives. The most thorough motivation profile available.
The Reiss Motivation Profile is one of the most scientifically rigorous motivation assessments available. Developed by professor Steven Reiss at Ohio State University through research with over 6,000 people, it identifies 16 fundamental human motives — the deep needs that drive behavior across all contexts and cultures.
Unlike other personality tools, the Reiss Profile doesn't categorize you into a type. It maps your unique motivational fingerprint across 16 dimensions, showing which drives are strong for you (above average), which are weak (below average), and which are neutral. The combination of your scores is essentially unique — there are no two identical profiles.
Most personality tools describe how you behave. The Reiss Profile explains why. When your life and work align with your highest motives, you experience intrinsic satisfaction. When they don't — even if everything looks good from the outside — something always feels off. The Profile makes that gap visible and actionable.
Typical insights: why certain roles feel draining even when you perform well, why you clash with some people despite shared values, why you pursue goals that don't satisfy you once achieved. The Profile is particularly useful before major career transitions and for understanding recurring relationship patterns at work.
