What it measures
Rate each from 1 to 10. The areas with the biggest gaps are where the most tension lives.
The Wheel of Life is one of the oldest and most widely used coaching tools. Its power is in its simplicity: by rating eight key life areas on a single scale, you create an immediate visual picture of where you are — and where the tensions live. The areas with the biggest gaps between adjacent segments are usually where the most energy is being lost.
Three things to keep in mind when taking it: First, score how things actually are today, not how you want them to be or how they were last year. Optimism blurs the picture. Second, the goal is not to get tens across the board — that's not a life, that's a spreadsheet. The goal is to see clearly. Third, a low score isn't necessarily a problem — it only becomes one if it's bothering you or if it's undermining one of the areas you do care about.
Once you have your scores, pick one area — not the lowest, but the one that, if it improved, would have the biggest positive ripple across the others. That's usually where to focus first. The Wheel is most useful taken periodically (every 3–6 months) so you can track movement over time, not as a one-off snapshot.
